4th Class Students are taking part in the STEPS Young Engineers Award. The STEPS Young Engineers Award encourages primary school students, in 3rd and 4th class, to develop creative engineering projects to help or improve their local community.
Children are tasked with identifying a problem and work in teams to come up with a creative engineering solution. They are encouraged to focus on sustainability when creating their solution.
As part of the STEPS Young Engineers Award, schools are also encouraged to invite local engineers, or sign up for a STEPS Volunteer Engineer, to visit their classroom. During this visit, children can showcase their projects and learn about the important role of engineering in the community. We were delighted to welcome Susan Lynott, assistant lecturer in Mechatronic Engineering in TU Blanchardstown out to visit us as part of STEPS programme. She came out at the end of November and offered great support and advice to the students on their project. We also welcomed Engineers Ireland Martin Heavy who worked with the students to further develop their ideas. We are so grateful to them both for their guidance and support.
The STEPS programme is funded by the Department of Education and industry leaders Arup, the EPA, ESB, Intel and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
STEPS aims to inspire future generations of STEM talent by providing meaningful, fun, and practical insights into the diverse world of engineering.
