GLOBE Air Quality

GLOBE Air Quality Campaign – Citizen Science in Our Community
We are delighted to be taking part in the GLOBE Ireland Air Quality Campaign, an exciting citizen science project that gives pupils the opportunity to investigate the quality of the air in their own local environment.
As part of the project, Dunboyne Senior Primary School has teamed up with Dunboyne Junior Primary School and St Peter’s Dunboyne GAA Club, linking our work with the GAA Green Club initiative. This is a wonderful opportunity for our schools and local GAA club to work together on an environmental project that benefits the whole community.
Three air-quality monitoring tubes have been installed at different locations around the pitches at St Peter’s Dunboyne GAA Club. The tubes will measure levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), an air pollutant associated with vehicle exhaust emissions.
The tubes will remain in place for the monitoring period before being removed and sent for laboratory analysis. When the results are returned, our pupils will examine and compare the data from the three locations and investigate what the findings can tell us about air quality in our local area.
This project is a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to become citizen scientists, carrying out a real environmental investigation and working with real scientific data. It also encourages important discussions about transport, traffic, vehicle idling and the simple actions we can take to help improve the quality of the air around us.
🌱 Three partners • One community • Cleaner air for everyone! 🌍
