We are incredibly proud to celebrate the fantastic achievement by our wonderful 5th Class pupils at Dunboyne Senior Primary School. A huge congratulations to all involved in the Dunboyne Tidy Towns Save the Swifts Project — an inspiring initiative combining biodiversity, innovation and STEM learning in a meaningful way.

The Save the Swifts Project, led by Dunboyne Tidy Towns, aims to raise awareness of declining swift populations and support the protection of these much-loved birds within our local community. As part of this important biodiversity initiative, swift nesting boxes have been installed throughout the village to help create safe habitats and encourage the return of swift populations to the area.

Our talented 5th Class pupils embraced this project with enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork. Using their STEM skills, they designed and created a 3D-printed swift whistle, helping to raise awareness of swift conservation in an engaging and educational way.

The project continued to grow through participation in the Microsoft DreamSpace Showcase, where pupils explored how technology can support wildlife conservation. Using a micro:bit, the children successfully coded a system capable of detecting and counting the number of swifts using the nesting boxes installed around the village. This exciting work gave pupils a hands-on opportunity to see how coding, engineering and digital technology can be used to tackle real environmental challenges and support biodiversity conservation.

We are delighted to share that the pupils’ hard work, innovation and dedication received national recognition through the Meath County Council Global Goal 2026 Award at the Microsoft DreamSpace Showcase.

Well done to our amazing 5th Class students on this fantastic achievement. We know they were absolutely delighted to attend the DreamSpace Showcase and represent our school so brilliantly. Congratulations to everyone involved! 👏
